Flat Pans.

I chose to put the image in the centre of my flat plan as i thought it would get the attention of my target audience. I tried to keep my design simple as I wanted it to be enticing but clear and obvious of what the main focus of the magazine is.I have left a larger section of space at the bottom of my page so the page will not seem top heavy. For the design of my contents page I put one image and surrounded it with text to make it look busy and full of information. I made the mast head on my contents page the same large size as on my cover as I think it is important to have a running design throughout my magazine.I will incorporate these ideas into my final design.

Contents Page

I like my final contents page as I think the way the text bleeds into the box of black colouring keeps a theme running through from my front cover. I chose black and white as the only text colours as there would be a picture in the main image box which would then be the only colour and this would attract attention and highlight the main articles of my magazine. I chose to have a lot of text on my contents page as I wanted the page to look busy to reflect the magazine.

Finished Magazine Cover

Evaluation of cover.
This is my final design for my front cover. It is almost identical to my brief design I did before only consisting of slight differences. I choose the title 'comic' for my masthead as I thought it was a simple but effective pun style name for my magazine. I decided that the green I used was the most appropriate for my magazine as it is a mutual colour that both boys and girls like. I edited both the subheadings and the main flash in white as it was the most suitable colour against the water image in the background. I included both a border and a block of black colouring under my masthead to help increase the predominance of the magazine name.
I like my cover as i think it is good for students witch was my aim.
If I was to edit it in any way I would have maybe
re-taken my photo in a higher resolution.

Cover Editing.

With this first image I wanted to create a contrasting effect with this layout using the different shades of grey, but I dont think it would catch anybody's attention so I am going to try againwith some different colours.

I also tried this second layout with the sepia tones taken out of the image with more text I think this would be a good layout but I still want to encoupourate more colour in to it.

My third image , I like because the colour is mutual witch will be suitable for boys ands girls. The photo is ideal in presance and position and the text can be easaly read. In this image I have created a block of black colouring to bleed my masthead into the layout. I designed my masthead by elongating the letters as I think this makes it look more trendy which is ideal for my target audience.

Try-Outs Photos.

After thinking about potential ideas for my cover and developing them on paper, I have decided to do some close-up shots of my face and experiment using the contrast of colour in a particular area of the photos. Although not, a Mid-shot I have decided to try this picture out against different colour schemes, I will upload these on my blog at a later date as I will create a series of images together on multiple backgrounds. The reason I like this photo is the green in my eyes is quite Strong and grabs the attention of the audience. I'm not sure weather it is suitable for a college magazine as I don't know what it could be linked too. However I do like the imagery used with the boldness of the eyes and I will want to carry that on through my design at a later stage. I have also experimented with trying to evolve all my ideas so far and edited my photo in to a black and white tone.

I am then going to experiement with photoshop leaving the eyes to be the only colour.

My second personal photo is the one to the left. this photo is quite a good image. It's incorporation of the white background and dark hair creates quite a eye catching contrast and with the use of photoshop I could define these features more predominantly. I will feature these edits at a later date.

Black And White Edit

I wanted to link a colour scheme in to my design ideas for further adaptation to my cover. I used the most suitable image from my photoshoot and edited it in to a black and white sepia tone. I did this so when i create more flat plans on InDesign, I can incorporate my black and white image to black and white layout i desired.

Photo Shoot

I took a photo shoot of possible images for my magazine cover. This first image is good but I don't think It is precise enough for my ideal layout.

I took a selection of other photos to compare quality and position. Originally when i took this first picture I wanted to leave the left side of my model with a little bit more space, as I ideally would have liked to have a section of writing Incorporated on to the photo. However after processing the photo's i decided i would have preferred a black and white design on my cover. I feel this photo would clash with what I would like for my overall design. The other flaw to this photo is her open mouth. If I used this, it would suggest I had been inattentive to my overall design.
My second image that I took from the shoot was this one. Although It looks almost identical to the last photo, my models mouth is shut in this one and i think that leaves the image with a more clean-cut professional look. I think as it is a college magazine I am providing the photo for it would be more appropriate to aim for a professional look. However at the moment i am deliberating over weather to aim the magazine for students and teachers or just purely a younger student audience.

This third image I took was completely wrong it is off the focus I desired and is messy and unappealing. I can see from this picture how it is important to get a mid-set view of my model and also how the background largely affects the overall iconography of the photo. I will proceed to take another photo shoot incorporating all I have learnt from these pictures.

Preliminary Task.

Preliminary Task.

My task is to design a front cover and a contents page, for a college magazine, using specific computer programmes including, Adobe InDesign and Adobe Photoshop. I must structure my cover to include a photo, masthead and some text in a presentable way. The image I will be providing for my front cover will be a medium close up photo of student using the ' Marjorie Ferguson ' technique to entice my target audience, who are predominantly students of the college. My masthead will be bold and interesting, however I would ideally like the over-all presentation of my magazine to be stylish with a fun essence.

Above this text is one of my origanal design layouts for my front cover. Altough it is a rough design and has no official content its is a guide for me to see what parts i think would attract my attention and what I personally like about it. I have filled in the image and text boxes to create a sence of what the overall layout of the cover should look like.
